Lesvos, In Our Days

We’re on Lesvos this summer. An island not yet overexposed, but finally being seen. The food here is unreal—some of the best seafood we’ve had. The light, the faded neoclassical buildings, the mountains dropping into the sea. A kind of beauty that doesn’t try too hard.

Here’s where we swim, what we eat, and a few places we return to again and again.

Mytilene, Port

Swim

Mytilene – Port & Apeli
Quick dip. City swim. In and out, right by the center.

Eftalou
Long, pebbled, clear. Hot springs nearby. Feels like nowhere else.

Sigri area
Forever favorite. Empty stretches, raw coastline, the best light.

Eftalou

Eat

Gavros marinatos
Marinated anchovies. Sharp, cold, perfect with ouzo!

Louloudaki (zucchini flowers)
Stuffed, delicate, usually with rice and herbs. If you see them, order them.

Octupus
Octopus. Grilled or in vinegar. Always tender, never rushed.

Fresh fish
Whatever’s just come in. Ask what’s best that day.

Ntolmadakia
Wrapped in vine leaves. Soft, lemony, home-style.

Local cheeses
Graviera, ladotyri, feta. Grilled, crumbled, eaten with bread.

Ouzo Spentza
Our forever favorite. Made here. Clean and strong.

And Last—

Don’t forget to explore the villages.
We’ll leave that part open.
Find your own favorite corner, and sit down for a local Greek coffee.
